A (not so) fresh start

Welcome to my new domain! Please update your links and bookmarks. :D I’ve actually been contemplating changing domains for quite some time already, and when I saw that tokaikko.com was available, I thought about it for a few hours and then decided to register it. It’s about time for a move anyway, since I’m getting sick of sweet-desire.net.

I haven’t decided what to do with my old domain though. It expires in 2 months, but I don’t know if I can bear to let it go yet, simply for sentimental reasons. Maybe I’ll renew it for another year and see if I’ll have some use for it eventually? I have a .com, .net and .org now. :dork:

I’m still tweaking the site here and there, so don’t worry if some bits suddenly look a bit odd while you’re surfing (it’s probably me making some changes). Do let me know if you spot any errors though!

P.S. And if you’re wondering what’s with the weird name, it’s not gibberish. Tokaikko (都会っこ) means city girl in Japanese. :)

did anyone think i disappeared?

If you have tried accessing this page over the past few days, I’m sure you’d have gotten a “connection timed out” error. I received an email from my host a few days ago stating that there was going to be a 1 hour downtime due to an emergency server migration to a new facility. That 1 hour downtime turned into a 4 day nightmare due to IP propagation issues and perhaps other problems as well. It’s honestly frustrating, especially since the site had to go down just when I wanted to update it!

Having 4 days of downtime is really unacceptable. Other than not being able to access my site and blog, I’m not really affected by this. But think of those hosting business sites, 4 days of downtime means 4 days worth of revenue lost!

Hopefully now that the servers are at a new facility, the stability and uptime will be back to how it used to be, or even better. If not, I guess it means time to go shopping for a new host again.

happy 2 years!

And for the occasion, there’s a new layout. :)

Can you believe it’s already been 2 years? Time just passes so fast!

Looking at the ferris wheel on the layout makes me want to go on one! I haven’t been on one until now (how sad, come to think of it), but I think it’d be so nice to go on one with your friends or someone special. I must go on one if I ever see it!

My sense of colour coordination is so bad. -.- There are a few things here and there that I still want to tweak, and I’ll get around to that slowly.

layout and erm… doughnuts.

New layout, as most of you would have realised. It had been sitting in my hard disk for months while I was thinking of whether I should just scrap the whole thing or put it up. Is the text viewable or does it kill your eyes when you try to read it?

is she a fraud?

The thing about buying things from other sellers online, or buying things from websites through spree organisers, is that sometimes you meet people who are simply out to cheat you of your money. Saw this post a while ago, and if the person in question does turn out to be a fraudster, I really do wonder whether the people who participated in her spree will get their money back.

Of course, most spree organisers on sgspree aren’t out to cheat others of their money; it’s just the very rare one or two that spoil the whole image of the organisers, and make people more cautious of spreeing online. I have bought stuff from some of these organisers before, and everything has reached me undamaged, and the transactions went really smoothly as well. The most important thing about spreeing online is to only participate in sprees that are organised by people you know can be trusted, based on your own experience and that of others. If in doubt of the organiser, just don’t get anything from that spree and wait for another round. Even if the item you want is no longer available, I think it’s better than getting your money cheated.
